How long is the life of pH sensor？

“How long is the life of PH sensor?” this question is often asked by my customers. But it can not be answered in a few words.

  Firstly, let me introduce the provisions of the national standard (zbn50003-88) on the “service life” of sensors: “Life of electrode --- from the manufacturing date marked on the sensor, when unpacked for use within the storage period of one year, its performance shall meet all the requirements of this standard.”

 It is very clear here that the quality assurance period of the electrode is one year on the premise that it has not been used. Therefore, many people generally say that the service life of the electrode is one year. In fact, this is wrong.

We stored a pH composite sensor for a long time and tested it regularly. The results showed that after three years, the slope of the sensor could reach 97%, and other indexes were also qualified; However, in actual use, it is rarely heard that a sensor can be used for three years. In addition to the quality of the sensor itself, there are also factors of use and maintenance.

The first factor is the measured liquid. The same sensor will contact different liquids. Some liquids are very clean, such as tap water, and some media are strong acid, strong alkali or even high temperature.

 The second is the using time, some are used occasionally, some are used continuously for a long time.

The third is whether to clean and maintain.

Therefore, there will be great differences. Generally speaking, if an electrode fails in a very short time, it may be the wrong model selection or improper use and maintenance.

The general service life of pH sensors from DAXIN instruments is 6~12 months, and the life time of industrial pH electrode with poor service enviroment may be shorter.
